Finance Manager - 30 hours per week £20,800 pa (26,000pro rata)

Managing the finance function, the successful candidate will hold accountancy qualifications or be part qualified, be conversant with Sage Accounting systems and IT generally and will be able to operate at both a strategic and operational level.

Working some evenings for meetings, usually one a month as minimum and reporting to the Chief Executive with responsibility for the Finance & Administrative Assistant, the postholder will be a member of the Senior Management Team and be subject to an enhanced check with the Criminal Records Bureau.


Job Purpose

  • To provide an efficient, effective and accurate financial accounting service which meets all statutory requirements and is reflective of accountancy best practice.
  • To produce monthly management accounts for the Senior Management Team and Trustees with updated forecasts
  • To work as a member of the Senior Staff Team

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provision and interpretation of financial information to the Senior Management Team and the Board
  • Production and management of the annual budgets
  • Production of monthly management financial reports and KPIs
  • Monitor and interpret cash flows
  • Formulate strategic finance plans
  • Develop and maintain financial management mechanisms that minimise risk
  • Manage the financial accounting, monitoring and reporting systems
  • Conduct cost reduction exercises to comply with the organisations policies and procedures
  • Complete all day to day finance task including the operation of the purchase , sales and nominal ledgers on SAGE line 50
  • Analysis payroll cost and perform first check on the monthly payroll, liaison with Association’s pension scheme provider
  • Completion of quarterly VAT return
  • Preparation of annual financial accounts and liaison with the charity’s auditors
  • Able to use AMIS
  • Any duties as requested by the Chief Executive

Scope and Limits of Authority

The Association has a Code of Conduct for the Chief Executive and Delegated Authorities that set out the extent of Board’s delegated authority to the Chief Executive. The current documents are included in the Application Pack and are reviewed and updated by the Board from time to time.

Work Experience (Essential)

Experience in a particular type of job, e.g. previous experience in a shop.

Experience of operating at a similar level previously

Experience of presenting a complete financial reporting package to the Management team and Board of Trustees

Experience of designing, implementing and maintaining financial controls

Experience of interpreting complex data and presenting information to a variety of audience


Previous supervisory/Line Management experience

Experience of training non-financial managers in basic principles.


Academic or professional qualifications.

Fully Qualified (ACA, ACCA, ACMA)

Special Skills (Essential)

Specific skills e.g. interpersonal skills, presentation skill, analytical skills etc.

Knowledge of Sage Accountancy package


Analytical skills

Verbal and written communication skills

Able to balance strategic and operational demands


Knowledge of financial practice in the third sector

Understanding of the Voluntary Compact

Personal Attributes

E.g. determination, dependability, leaderships, team worker, etc.

Supportive of the Christian values of the organisation


Other Circumstances

E.g. need to travel, work shifts, unsociable hours, etc.

Ability to attend evening board meetings (once a month as a minimum)


Ability to travel to other sites within the National Movement
